Cheaper electricity to 1.1 million Bulgarians
From 256,000 at present, the new definition will increase the vulnerable consumers of electricity to 500,000 individuals and families, in total 1.1 million persons, which is 14 percent of the Bulgarian population.
The previous definition of vulnerable consumers applied to all individuals and families who receive assistance for heating. The new definition is extended and the category of socially vulnerable consumers will include also individuals and families who, because of age or health status or income, are at risk of social exclusion.
It is expected that before the summer break the Parliament will adopt the amendments to the Law on Energy, where the timetables and measures to protect vulnerable groups are included.
